Software patents

Test your code for the next big software patent.

Your code already does something new. Point Halo at the repository and it finds what is worth protecting.

Is the repository?

GitHub repository links only.

From repository to patent claims.

Here is Halo reading a real codebase: Arcangel’s own. It reviews every line, separates what is new from what is already known, drafts claims that point back to the code, and draws the patent figures.

How a software patent gets filed

Ten steps from a repository to a patent that pays. Click a placard or a step to open it, or swipe the deck on a phone.

Law-firm figures are typical U.S. estimates, not quotes. Government fees are the same either way and are left out.

What your software patent could earn

Monetize your Software

No company needed to earn from it. You don’t need a startup, a factory or a team. A company that already makes and sells products pays you for the right to use your software, and you keep the software patent.

Option 1 · Sell it

Arcangel International IP Exchange

Sell your software patent outright.

Prefer one payment over royalties? List your software patent for sale and let companies and investors around the world make offers.

  • Set your own asking price, or take offers
  • Reach buyers in other countries, not just the US
  • One payment, and ownership transfers to the buyer
  • Coming soon: the IP Exchange opens to Arcangel members

You set the asking price and decide which offers to accept. Arcangel lists the software patent and handles the transfer of ownership when a sale closes. A sale is final: the buyer owns the software patent and any future royalties. Sale prices depend on the software patent and on buyer demand, and a sale is not guaranteed.

Option 2 · License it

Arcangel keeps 10%. Over 10 years of a 20-year patent, income depends on whether licensed products sell.

You pay a one-time $10,000 licensing fee. You keep 90% of every royalty payment and Arcangel keeps 10%. No number of deals or yearly amount is promised. Earnings depend on whether licensed products sell.

Option 3 · Franchise it

IP Exchange · Franchising

Franchise your brand.

Built a product people love? Register the brand behind it, then let operators open locations under your name and pay you to use it.

  • Set your franchise fee, royalty and territory model
  • List rights for future locations, city by city
  • Operators request a territory; you accept who you want
  • Franchisees can resell their location, with your approval

Franchising needs a registered trademark, since the mark is what franchisees pay to use. In the U.S. you also give buyers a Franchise Disclosure Document under the FTC Franchise Rule, usually prepared by a franchise lawyer. Example figures are for illustration; earnings depend on how each location performs.

    Questions, answered

Yes. Import it with its patent or application number, even if you filed it somewhere else, and Arcangel tracks its status, deadlines, and maintenance fees in one place. Then test its earning potential, license it, or list it for sale on the IP Exchange.

Yes, when it does something technical in a new way: how data is processed, stored, secured, or moved. The code itself is covered by copyright; a patent protects the method. Halo flags the parts of your repository that clear that bar.

Private repositories connect through the Arcangel GitHub app after you sign in. Access is read-only and limited to the repositories you choose, and you can remove it from GitHub at any time. Halo reads the README and file names for your review, and nothing is used to train models.

Not in the U.S.: you have 12 months from when the code was first published to file. Most other countries need you to file before publishing, so file as soon as you can.

No. A working prototype, a branch, or even a README that explains how it works is enough to start. A provisional locks in your date while the product keeps changing.

They are billed separately at cost with no markup, and you see the exact amount before anything is charged. Any lower rates you qualify for are applied automatically.

    Inventor testimonials

As a full-time laboratory technician, I didn't expect a clamp I made so slides would stay put to become a licensed product. Arcangel prepared the patent filing and stayed with me through the license. It's now my primary income, and the depth of the application made the device easier for a company to take on.
